Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is an outpatient examination that allows visualization of the uterine cavity and cervical canal and thus diagnosis of any endouterine and/or endocervical pathology present (polyps, myomas, synechiae, etc.).

It is a mildly invasive examination lasting only a few minutes; patients generally complain of discomfort similar to menstrual pain; thereafter, it is possible to have scant blood loss for a few days requiring the use of a panty liner.

During the examination, a thin optic a few millimeters in diameter connected to a camera is used, which is introduced inside the dilated uterine cavity by a liquid distending medium.

In childbearing age it should be performed in the phase of the cycle following menstruation, between days 4 and 12 of the cycle. In menopause it can be performed at any time.

No preliminary examination is necessary.
