Urology and Andrology

Urology is the branch of medicine that studies, diagnoses, and treats diseases of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive/genital system. It deals with conditions affecting the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, and, in men, the prostate, testicles, and penis. In addition to performing examinations, the urologist can perform or prescribe diagnostic tests and carry out treatments and surgical procedures.

The urologist deals with the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder) in both males and females, as well as the male genital system. The andrologist is the specialist for the male genital system.

Particular importance is given to the correct assessment and treatment of prostatitis, very common conditions that are often chronic and significantly impact patients’ quality of life.

The surgical approach, always minimally invasive whenever possible, utilizes the latest generation tools, including Greenlight for the treatment of prostate hypertrophy, semi-rigid and flexible ureteroscopy, and laser lithotripsy for the treatment of urinary stones, the most advanced laparoscopic systems for the treatment of oncological diseases. Also included are the placement of transobturator (TOT) suburethral slings and colposacropexy with a minimally invasive technique.

All these techniques aim to preserve the patient’s anatomy as much as possible and are associated with reduced bleeding, minimized aesthetic impact of scars due to the extremely small size of the incisions, reduced postoperative pain, and a quicker return to usual daily activities.
