Villa Stuart Private Clinic
Nuclear medicine is a branch of medicine that uses small doses of radiopharmaceuticals, which are administered to the patient primarily intravenously. The characteristic of these tracers is that they distribute throughout the body in relation to the metabolic characteristics of the administered substances. The aim is to provide detailed information on specific organs such as the heart, bones, thyroid, etc.
In general, for ALL nuclear medicine procedures, a small dose of radiopharmaceutical is injected, which deposits in the organ of interest and emits radiation. This radiation is captured by a machine called a “gamma camera,” which produces digital images of the organ in question.
The injected radiopharmaceutical is NOT a contrast medium, does not cause allergies, and is generally well tolerated by all patients.
The nuclear medicine service operates in compliance with new standards for good radiopharmaceutical preparation, performing daily quality controls, and uses equipment capable of ensuring excellent diagnostic resolution and short examination duration.
Our Nuclear Medicine service has two dual-head gamma cameras (Millennium VG GE and Millennium MG GE) and a state-of-the-art data processing center (XELERIS GE).
