Allergology

Allergology is the branch of medicine that deals with allergies. Allergies, in their various manifestations (respiratory, food, and skin), are the consequence of an altered immune system response following contact, inhalation, and/or ingestion of normally harmless foreign substances.

DIAGNOSIS
  • Level I Examination
  • Prick test, allergens are introduced into the skin of the forearm through small needle pricks to check for any reactivity
  • Patch test, in suspected contact dermatitis, involves applying patches containing typically reactive substances to the skin (arms or back) for 48/72 hours to check for the development of skin reactivity
  • Level II Examination (if the Prick test cannot be performed or to quantify its results)
  • Blood sample for specific IgE measurement

MOLECULAR ALLERGY TEST ALEX 2

The Alex Test is the first multiplex in vitro allergy test capable of simultaneously measuring total IgE (tIgE) and specific IgE (sIgE) directed towards 156 allergen extracts and 126 molecular allergens, providing a complete picture of each patient’s sensitization.

It can detect IgE antibodies for the main sources of allergens:

  • Pollens
  • Mites
  • Animal-derived food
  • Plant-derived food
  • Microorganisms
  • Insects and venoms
