SPINAL ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY

Spinal surgery is a specialized branch of orthopedic surgery that provides surgical solutions to treat various conditions and disorders affecting the spine.

COMMON TECHNIQUES
  • Microdiscectomy/Discectomy:
    Removal of the herniated portion of the intervertebral disc that compresses the nerves.
  • Laminectomy:
    Removal of part of the posterior arch of a vertebra (lamina) to relieve pressure on the spinal cord.
  • Laminoplasty:
    Opening of part of the posterior arch of multiple vertebrae (laminae) to expand the spinal canal.
  • Arthrodesis (Spinal fusion):
    Fixation of two or more vertebrae, often using implants such as screws and rods or bone grafts, to stabilize unstable segments.
  • Vertebroplasty/Kyphoplasty:
    Percutaneous procedures involving the insertion of a balloon to restore vertebral height before injecting cement, for osteoporotic vertebral fractures.
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery:
    Decompression, stabilization, and correction procedures for spinal conditions using smaller incisions or percutaneous techniques, causing less muscle damage and speeding up recovery times.
  • Robotic Surgery:
    Robotic technology provides surgical assistance in complex procedures, allowing for improved precision in the placement of fixation devices and implants.
Minimally invasive and robotic techniques aim to reduce surgical trauma, post-operative pain, and recovery time, allowing patients to return to their activities more quickly.
