Pediatric Orthopedics
Pediatric orthopedics is the branch of orthopedics that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system in the still-developing body of infants, children, and adolescents up to age 18.
Specialists work synergistically with colleagues specializing in other areas of medicine with pediatric expertise such as orthopedic surgeon, physiatrist, therapists, osteopaths, anesthesiologists, and pain therapists.

PATHOLOGIES
The pediatric orthopedic surgeon collaborates with other specialists in other pediatric medical branches to whom he or she refers the patient, when necessary, for diagnosis and treatment of conditions by:
- Neonatal ultrasound of the hips
- Use of casts, corsets, circular or axial fixators of the hips
- Ponseti's protocol for the therapy of congenital clubfoot casts, corsets, circular or axial hip fixators
- Surgical therapy
- Cranial tractions
- Diathermocoagulation with radiofrequencies
- Botulinum toxin inoculum
- Physiotherapy
DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
Pathologies may be congenital, acquired, associated with diseases and syndromes, or traumatic in origin:

Congenital disorders and malformations:
hip dysplasia and congenital hip dislocation, congenital clubfoot, limb malformations and deformities, congenital torticollis, axial limb deviations (varus and valgus knee deformities) -
Acquired pathologies:
flatfoot, scoliosis and kyphosis, Perthes disease, femoral epiphysiolysis, tibial stress syndrome (shin splints) -
Pathologies associated with diseases and syndromes:
infantile cerebral palsy (ICP), diseases of the musculoskeletal system (benign and malignant tumors, osteogenesis imperfecta...)
