Prof. Marco Maiotti graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Sapienza University of Rome, specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, and obtained a specialization in Sports Medicine at the University of Chieti.
He began his clinical career as a University researcher at the Tor Vergata University of Rome from 1990 to 2000, holding the position of university assistant from 1995.
He was the head of the UOD of Sports Medicine and Traumatology from 2000-2008 and then Chief Orthopedic of the Complex Operational Unit of Sports Medicine and Traumatology at the San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital from 2008 to 2018.
He founded the Shoulder Surgery Unit at the Clinica Mediterranea in Naples IRCS Neuromed Group in 2018, where he currently works as the Head.
He is qualified to teach Locomotor System Pathologies as an Associate Professor. He is a lecturer in Shoulder Surgery at the Vanvitelli School of Specialization in Naples.
He has been the author and co-author of more than 50 articles published in national and international journals.
He has authored book chapters.
He has been a speaker at more than 100 presentations at national and international congresses.
Since 2023, he has been a member of the editorial board of the Arthroscopy Journal.
He performs approximately 400 surgeries each year, primarily targeting shoulder and knee pathologies, and has over 9,000 shoulder and knee surgeries to his credit.
He was a member of the SIOT Board of Directors in 2006-2007, and from 2018 to 2023, he was the president of the SIOT Instruction Courses Commission for the most advanced surgical techniques.
Since 2023, he has been a member of the international commission of the AANA (Arthroscopy Association of North America). In 2024, he became a member of the FAANA Group of orthopedic opinion leaders, AANA members who have demonstrated their dedication and quality in Arthroscopic surgery and related surgeries.
In 2010, he was the creator of an innovative technique to treat shoulder dislocation arthroscopically: the ASA technique, which has been the subject of 12 publications in international journals. Thousands of cases have been successfully operated on with this technique in Italy and abroad, for which he has been invited to give presentations and conferences on the subject in America, Europe, India, and China.
In 2016, he collaborated in the design and patented a Glenoid Shoulder Prosthesis for the treatment of bone defects.
