Prof. Manfredi Tesauro is Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Specialist in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases. He teaches in the degree programs in medicine and surgery (both in Italian and English), physiotherapy, physical activity and health promotion, in the master’s degree program in rehabilitation sciences-health professions, and serves as coordinator of the Medical Semiotics course in the English-language Medicine and Surgery degree program. He also conducts teaching activities in numerous specialization schools and in the research doctorate program. Member of the advisory committee for the endocrinological area as an expert at the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), he is currently vice-coordinator of the interdepartmental center for Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies and Instrumentation (NAST) at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata.” He primarily focuses on thyroid diseases, diabetes mellitus, diagnosis and treatment of vascular complications of diabetes, obesity and metabolic diseases. Author of more than 120 scientific publications in some of the most prestigious international journals in the endocrinological, diabetological and metabolic fields with over 4,100 citations in indexed journals and an H-index of 36.
In January 2021, the results of the study conducted by the research groups from the Roman universities of Tor Vergata and Policlinico Gemelli, led respectively by Prof. Tesauro and Prof. Carmine Cardillo, were published in the prestigious American journal Hypertension.
The study led to the discovery of a new class of drugs for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus capable of improving not only glycemic control with an incisive metabolic action and body weight loss, but also producing a cardioprotective effect with a significant reduction in cardiovascular events and mortality.
